Can goalie be called for shooting space foul?

Q. An attacking player is going to goal but has not yet reached the 8 meter arc. The goalie has no defender between herself and the attacker and she steps up toward the oncoming attacker. In so doing, the goalie actually steps just outside the goal circle as the attacking player crosses the 8 meter and looks to shoot. Is the goalie committing a shooting space violation since she is outside the goal circle and in the path of an impending shot? Since shooting space is a call based on player safety it’s hard to see how the goalie could be in danger in this situation. Thank you.

A. The goalie is definitely in a shooting space violation. Goalies are considered field players regardless of their protective equipment whenever they leave the goal circle and are subject to the same rules as any field player ** including all checking rules i.e. sticks must remain outside their sphere and may be checked or check under the same rules. The only difference is that they are not allowed to shoot on goal.

Regarding shooting space violation - Any player not marking the opponent within a sticks length is subject to the shooting space violation when the attacker is within 15 m of the goal (which is outside of the 12 m) and the player with the ball must look to shoot for the call.
