Q. At the C Level in youth girl's lacrosse, are the players required to play a man-to-man defense and stay within a sticks length of the player they are marking? This would allow for no zone defense and no double team?
A. MBGLL does not require any organization to play man-to-man defense, however man-to-man defense is preferred particularly at Level C since it it important to proper development of girls skills. Players at all levels are required to stay within sticks length while defending in the 8 meter arc, otherwise they are subject to the 3 second rule and may also be in a shooting space violation. Shooting space and 3 second rules apply at all levels. Double teams in addition to slides are still available whether girls are in a man-to-man defense or zone. If in man-to-man the girls then follow double teams with slides and marking up on open girls which requires teaching communication to your defense also.
