Double Teaming

Can you please clarify the rule (if any on double teaming/triple teaming, etc..) within and outside of the 8 m and 12 m?  Is there any rule?  If so, what is it?  How does this rule relate to girls needing to all be marking up a player.  Does a triple team count b/c they are all marking the same player?  Any clarification you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

level c question

I have two questions:

Question 1:

In level C, I am confused about foul calls and the resulting 8m shot on goal. If there are goalies being used and a player is called for shooting space, for example, then the other team gets the ball and can they then take a direct shot on goal (assuming they have already made 3 passes) or do they always have to be indirect shots in level C. I am confused because I read two different things in the rules on mbgll’s site.

I see this from mbgll site under girls rules:
Fouls Fouls shall be the same as those outlined in Rule 6 of the US Lacrosse Women’s Rules with the following modifications:

1. No shooting on free positions, unless using a goalkeeper or modified goal opening (Level C). (Major Foul)

But then I read this:
Penalties for Fouls The penalty for fouls is a free position with all players, including the offender, moving 4m away from the player with the ball. For specifics on major, minor, and goal circle fouls and carding, see Rule 7 in the US Lacrosse Women’s Rules. A 3-second count violation is considered a minor foul with the closest defender to the ball carrier being awarded the ball. The only modification for these youth rules is in Level C, where all free positions are indirect (i.e., the player with the ball may never shoot directly from the free position).

I have had ref’s say different things so could you please clarify if in Level C and we are fouled can we take a direct shot on a goalie or not?



Question 2: In level C, there is no offside, correct?

Sports Goggles

Hi -

 

I have a youth lacrosse player that needs to wear glasses.  She can not wear contacts.  Her parents have invested in a pair of sport goggles to wear under her Harrow Goggles.  They want to know if she will be able to play wearing both.  They have looked into the US Lacrosse Rules/Guidelines and it appears that it is allowed.  Her Harrow Goggles say "ASTM Standard F803-03" on them.

 

Please let me know if this is allowed or not.

Detaining penalty

It my 3^rd and 4^th grade girls yesterday we were called 5-6 times for detaining. The girls were playing defense on a girls did not come in any contact with the other team. I did look up detaining and I thought it said the defensive player had to make contact with the ball carrier. I asked for an explanation from the field ref and he said the penalty is for anytime a defender doesn’t let the player go by them. However the offensive player was basically standing still from the defense. Could I get a explanation about this rule so I can teach my kids differently.

If your players were holding their position and not forcing or detaining the opponent via stick or body then they have been defending with good positioning - good job coach! Defensive players are entitled to their space as well as any offensive player which also leads to the opposing calls of charging/blocking. In detaining, a player may not hold, tag, press, or push against a player an opponents body, clothing, or cross - Remember, the definition of a player's body position is defined as the space around her body to include the distance of her arms outstretched. Players may not extend their cross or body beyond this specified distance in order to impede and opponent.

3 pass reset

Hi, I’m a youth coach in Watertown seeking the three pass rule for clarity. My U-15 team understands the three pass rule. My question is this… During a game yesterday the opposing team was chased back across the fifty yard line. When this occurs I am of the understanding the pass count should “reset” to zero and begin again, is this true? I have searched the rule book prior to asking and could not find a place to begin?

The three pass rule starts with a goalie clear before the 50 yard line, therefore any passes on the field of play count for the total passes whether they pass the 50 or retreat as long as they have possession. If the attacking team looses possession but regains possession before the opponent takes it across the 50, the pass count remains. The pass count resets only when the defense clears the ball bast the 50 while in their possession.

Shooting Space?

Please confirm or clarify: If a def. player is legally marking an off. player in the 8, can a shooting space violation be called?

Many rules are subject to a number of circumstances. IF a girl is in a commited defense actively marking a girl and follows her completely through the arc - then she is not in shooting space. BUT, she can not for one instanct stop to look or delay or she should be called for shooting space. Beware, shooting space is a challenging call to get right at these lower levels because, quite honestly there are MANY other violations which require umpire discretion in addition to the unpredictable movements of less skilled players. Shooting space should always be called BEFORE the shot is released and remember there is no shooting space violation unless the shooter looks to shoot - therefore, this call is usually dependant on a referee seeing the play develop.

Two questions...

If two players are fighting for the ball can one player bat it away with her stick to get a better position to scoop up the ball? This call is at the discretion of the umpire. Batting the ball in itself is not against any rul, however any manner in which a player puts her stick between another player's stick and the ball for purposes of blocking the opponent from picking up the ball to legitimately scoop the ball is covering. This includes batting the ball rather than scoping the ball for pickup when the opposing player is in position to pick up the ball and is attempting a scoop. ***Please note: this is a rule called with variability due to the level of play and ability of the players. Always ask your referee for clarification and it is best to get their interpretation BEFORE the game or at halftime.

Also at the 3/4 level if a team scores more than 4 goals in a half is the opposing team supposed to get the ball rather than doing a draw? Have had one referee do this and another who did not...
Yes, at all levels in MBGLL. Once there is a 4 goal differential, the team behind is allowed to take the ball on the draw with the opponent placed at a 45 degree defensive position ahead. Referees are not responsible for keeping score, so the loosing team should request the ball with confirmation of the goal differential from the other coach. If the goal differential drops to less than 4 - a draw is used for restart after goals.
